Yes, it was funny, but the implications take us someplace were we don’t want to go. Which is that when someone says something annoying we use that tool to take a poke at them, when just flaming them would avoid the issue of censorship.

If thats going to be our standard, why aren’t we editing about 5% of Kung Fools’s posts where he complains of Bullshido staff oppression. He didn’t edit the post because of its content. He stated as much. If he was editting it for that purpose, he wouldn’t be planning to restore it. The note at the bottom says what he;s up to.

Hedge could have simply posted:

No fuss, no issue. But where is the boundry? should we edit anyone, who invokes “thought police”, or some other complaint, once we step away from a necessity, or consent justification, this tool can be applied to all kinds of people who we disagree with. Hell, I could sit back and dream up all kinds of justifications for creative editing other peoples’ posts, I don’t think we should go down that road just to make a point.
Had Hedge posted what you suggested, it would niether be amusing nor antagonistic.
Obviously if he made a habit of it, we’d have a problem, but he’s smarter than that.
I think Hedge needs to fix the post NOW, leave your text in there too, insert what you deleted like you did for us on this thread.
Then Phrost should PM Rigante back, tell him he beat Hedge about the head and it’s fixed. As far as the apology goes, that’s up to Hedge to do that. If that’s not acceptable, tell him to settle it like men.

While Rigante is a loser and I could care less about his lame ass, editing posts has brought us more trouble than good in the long term. It does not benefit the site at all, which should be the point of all our uses of staff functions.

I agree with that move. Guys like this will make throuble by stirring up otherwise reasonable people. Show those reasonable people something to distance themselves from in Rigante, and he cannot do the DRD, while we’re free to ban him at will.
Alternate was banned for relating potential real world harrassment, Rigante is actually making harrassment contingent on the behavior of saff mmbers.
