Jimmy, in the odd chance you do come back, why hit a big pad with your fist when you can hit a sparring partner that not only rushes you like a zombi but also throws punches etc. you know, like in a fight?
My dad used to practice Karate for years, and though he also did boxing, judo and Greece-roman wrestling he loved karate best, and thinks it is a great MA system for self defense.
I agree, if you have a good trainer and sparring partners, it is very good especially against an untrained unprepared thug. But, there are many more systems now days that are better . Especially if you combine the most effective MA there is and mix them up to one lethal system.
Buddhists aren’t always nice people dude. That goes for ALL people.

Let’s get into this a little more deeply, erezb. By a “real … budhist,” do you mean a Theravada Buddhist? Or are you willing to count one or more versions of Mahayana? Which ones? Is the Dalai Lama a real Buddhist? Are you really just saying that Der Auslander hasn’t attained Buddha nature? Because if you’re just saying that, then you aren’t saying much, since everyone shares that feature unless they are a bodhisattva or have achieved nirvana.
Plus, he keeps dropping pretty broad hints that he may not even be a Buddhist; if he isn’t one, then his not being a “real Buddhist” wouldn’t be much of a criticism.
By the way, erezb, are you a real Jew? Do you follow at least all of the 613 mitzvot? What about the rest of the halakhah? Do you contact everyone here on the board that you have caused emotional injury to, prior to Yom Kippur each year, in order to ask forgiveness? If not, why not? I’ve read about Judaism, so I feel qualified based on your answers to judge whether you are a real Jew.

When Der Auslander says STFU, I’m sure he means it constructively. Some of the BJJ guys I have rolled with in the past were really nice. They politely choked the shit out of me and made me like it. Some people are just more blunt or crass than others; it goes with the territory.
