My uncle Steve (he wasn’t my real uncle, just a family friend) taught me some old school judo (no Gi, no clothing) when I was about, oh, six or seven. He knew loads of techniques with his ‘Judo Stick’. One of his favourites was to get my back and utilise the RNP (Rear Naked Poke). Hell of a move. I submitted every time.
Ah, brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it… I can still see him standing there in his long grey mac, stroking his beard, wearing thick glasses with his odd little squint…
Strangely, we never saw him again after I told my parents about our private lessons. Spose they were against kids doing MA. But I guess they’re still kind of in touch. I know they still send him Christmas cards 'cos I heard mum telling dad the other day that he was ‘still safely on the list.’
So, anybody got any good tips on how to utilise the Judo stick?
