I don't have a martial art in my personal battery that is a sport by it's very design

I may have never mentioned it, but the very first real MA I took any lessons in was Judo, in a summer program way back in the early 1980’s. Just a few weeks of hip throws and roles as a kid, but I have always wanted to complete Judo. More recently, I have wanted to have Judo become my third MA, to complement my Wing Tsun and Latosa Weapons System. It fits perfectly technique wise, and it is a sport, which neither the chun nor Escrima can provide.

So to start Judo, I am going to work as far from WT or Escrima as I can. Both are standing focused martial arts, and both incorporate throws and some submissions, but mostly with the arms. So I want to start on the ground, and work my way up to standing again.

I have started training at a Ground based Judo system here in Sacramento, which they call BJJ. Due to a Festivus Miracle, I have a 6 month membership, and I am going to try as hard as I can to make blue belt in that time!!!

So you’re gonna be the guy who calls the BJJ Brazilian Judo because you’re old school or something?

All I can say is: what the :wtfgif9fr this is one of the more baffling paragraphs I’ve read in a while.

Don’t forget the Feats of Strength!

Faggot.

Lol, you’ve been reading Judoforum haven’t you?

What does, ‘throws mostly with the arms’ mean?
I have always wanted to complete Judo.
Yeah, good luck with that.

It means throws that are bad.

Judo: It’s something you can complete. Like a correspondence course.

I give it a few months before he starts teaching judo in his backyard.

I am on the first chapter of Judo. Only 198 more pages then I will have it completed!

I am thinking of completing the Dune saga next.

I’ve seen your videos. Your padded escrima is a sport.

Strength of feet!!

One does not complete Judo. Judo completes you.

Is that right, guys?

I just made that up.

AND with that cue the “In Soviet Russia” derail…which is a sharp departure from the normal derails associated with a DTT thread

In Soviet Russia, Judo is called Sambo. Or Sombo. Or Cambo. Or Combo. I’m not sure at this point which ones rock and which ones suck.

Actually, DTT is just the sort of guy who’d have an opinion on this…

Very deep.

Reminds me of a quote from the Roman philosopher, Apollonius of Tyana -
‘Si tacuisses philosophus mansisses’.

Now he’ll be unstoppable.

Philosophers are mansissies?

It will be very hard to complete your judo, but good luck with that.

Tell that to Plato.

DAYoung and I will kill you.
