Unarmed firefighters shot dead, i guess if they had assault rifles this wouldn’t have happened.

Not exactly sure what point you are trying to make…

Firefighters need to be better armed than your average gun holder.
Fire and crime go hand in hand.
We don’t really know what happened and what drives someone to target firefighters…But that is an annoying new development…we have a similar situation here…when ambulances and or fire trucks need to enter an arab village, they wait for an armed escort because of previous attacks, and of course people die in the process.
The school shooting was horrifying and EVIL.
This latest shit is just fucking stupid. This kind of pointless, comic book villian type lunacy seems to be getting more widespread. Somebody obviously put some thought into this attack on the firefighters, but WHY?! What’s the point? It can’t be notoriety, because he didn’t get caught or kill himself. And it’s not like he robbed the firemen.
We don’t really know what happened and what drives someone to target firefighters
This is an assumption. You don’t know that because this particular group of volunteer firefighters were targeted, that the perpetrators were specifically targeting firefighters.

The simplest possibility is that someone had a vendetta against this particular group of firemen in a small burb of NY.
Makes sense. Waiting to see how this turns out.
I’m looking forward to another outpouring of support for firearms, complete with image macros about how criminals don’t obey the law and what we really need is more guns.
Merry fucking Christmas.
I won’t be surprised if Santa gets shot…
BTW you guys (Americans) have your own terrorist attacks, it is just that yours has a little less logic to them, and is harder to predict.
I was joking in my first post about adding guns…i seriously think it is time to recall as much as possible, and seriously limit who gets to own a gun. It should be a privilege/necessity and not a right.
I don’t understand what you seem so angry about. I’m kind of doubting that any firearms just torched a house and a car, made a 911 call, then started shooting firefighters without the aid of a non-lawabiding citizen.

Yes. That. That is exactly the type of no-really-firearms-aren’t-dangerous rhetoric I have grown accustomed too every time a large number of people are killed by firearms.

Then I’m glad you don’t vote in my country. This action may have had a lot of logic to it, it may not have; the dude is dead and either way it’s complete conjecture. This hypersensitivity to gun violence is to be expected with a ban on assault rifles being pushed through congress and a recent tragedy connected to firearms. People die every day in this country, and very few by guns in terms of percentage.

EDIT: Since when is 2 a large number?
Of course firearms are dangerous. That is exactly why citizens need to have an even playing field with threats (both foreign and domestic). I’m sure many people have been killed by firearms, within US borders, since the Sandy Hook tragedy. I’m sure many more will be killed. But how many will be killed because of multiple decade long addiction to cigarettes? How many will be killed by drunk drivers? How many will be killed by sober drivers. The only reason these are gaining so much publicity is because of the recent tragedy and increased sensitivity to these types of incidents.
Also, look at the number of gun owners not committing horrible atrocities. It’s illogical to think that the actions of a few would limit the rights of so many more. And forgive me if i don’t think the government has the right to take away the guns that are there to protect me from them.

Firearms are dangerous. Does not mean we should ban them. On the other hand a safe and stable society, especially for schoolchildren and people trying to help others is desirable. This shooting was a breakdown of gun control within a society of legal guns. Laws such as no guns for felons need to be enforced. Gun owners need to generate some outrage for unmonitored murderer with a gun; not try to defend gun ownership. (Also this does not mean all gun control laws fail; the no felons with guns has led to many reincarcerations.)

Re-incarcerations of which the majority are at the state level. Relatively few incarcerations are the result of federal violations which would impose mandatory lengths of sentence.
The Feds must be too busy enforcing the federal immigration statutes, drug laws, …
…no, wait…
I trust the government to do right forever and ask no questions, ever.

Exactly; instead of grief for the dead for the or an examination of our cultural values, all we get out of these tragedies is petty defensiveness and desperate clinging like a child unto a security blanket.

And my want of right to protect myself/mine is akin to a child clutching a security blanket?
There is grief for the dead aplenty. God bless those killed and their loved ones dealing with these senseless tragedies.
Let’s not mix grief or lack thereof with anything other than what it is. Let us look at our cultural values. Don’t equivocate the actions of a relative few with the merits of the majority.

This is the toughest issue I have with stricter gun restrictions. If someone chooses to attack you, they are responsible. If I disarm you (through my vote) I now share responsibility.
Anyone reminded of American History X?
