Things I immediately notice:
-I’m barely using my hands at all. In fairness, this is partly because I have a hard time getting inside on this guy in particular. He used to do TKD and catches me coming in with side kicks a lot, which don’t hurt, but they keep me from getting in on him and doing my damage. So I appear to have adopted the strategy of “don’t try and come in at all”, which is obviously not working that well.
-I’m covering too much and not looking for opportunities to counter.
-Moving straight backwards stuck me in a corner once or twice.
Thoughts? Suggested drills to work on problems? Tomatoes to throw?
Edit- Um…it appears to be sideways. I’ll ask the guy who uploaded it if he can fix it.
yeah, your covering up a lot and letting other guy take the offensive…not always, but its noticeable. For someone talented your going to get more opportunities for a clean strike when attacking just simultaneously or slightly varied timing (Japanese striking arts have terms for these timings).
Always remember to vary cadence of strikes. The good 'ole one…two, are fine but mix in a lot of one…and strikes, attacking in off-cadence timing. Again, your doing it sometimes, but it helps to plan and wargame that a little bit and implement that into your tactics so you can start baiting guys and countering with unpredictable timing and angles.
A good strategy I have found to work is side stepping in the direction of your opponents front foot, it works really well against TKD style kicking. Remember to side step in, not directly to the side.
