Hermes Franca Arrested - Sexual Assault

Apparently not talking about sexual assault towards a minor means taking the moral high ground. Here I thought it was just part of not being a shitty person.

Give up.

Know what - fuck you guys. This isn’t funny, and it’s not YMAS either. Kickapoo’s right on this one. tantrum complete

I don’t know if the guy is guilty - I hope not in fact. 7 counts? It sounds like just 1 student, so maybe there’s some kind of weird blackmail/misdirection thing going on.

Mom/Dad intercept a suggestive text.
Kid calls out the former instructor who’s (safely) out of the country instead of her real bf.
Franca is the victim?

Sounds like Franca is facing this thing head on, so maybe it’s the kid bullshitting.

Sorry guys…guess I started that, even though my original post was genuine in intent.

Also for the rest of you, chill the fuck out. None of you actually give a shit and pretending to have some kind of moral high ground on this is absurd. Get over yourselves.

It says it happened between nov 30 and dec 31. I’m in the pacific NW and competed in a tournament in Oregon md January, and Hermes was there. I even got a pic with him not sure how to embed it from my phone though

The real issue to ponder here is that regardless of the outcome Franca’s name will forever be tainted with this accusation. Even now people will be avoiding him, not returning his calls and it will be having a massively negative impact on his business.

So toxic is the allegation and so quick is society and people in general to jump to the conclusion that because a man is implicated in a sex crime he must absolutely be guilty, because he’s a man.

One could draw parallels with the treatment of Dominique Strauss Khan by US authorities, whose guilt is already assumed before any trial has taken place…

Recently in the UK justice minster Ken Clarke made a comment on a radio programme that not all rape is the same level of seriousness. To illustrate his point he talked about how consensual sex between a 16 year old girl and her 15 year old boyfriend is considered to be an act of rape by the girl on the boy, under the law. However, it would be ludicrous not to draw a distinction between that ‘rape’ and a woman dragged into an alleyway and raped at knifepoint in terms of seriousness.

However, instead of a sensible conversation arising out of his comments they were ignored and people focused on just the crude ‘a rape is a rape is a rape’ mantra. You ask a room of people if consensual sex between a 16 year old girl and 15 year old boy means that the 15 year old boy has been raped and you will get prett short shrift, however, under the law it is an act of rape.

Out of this national debate has emerged an interesting figure that only 6% of reported rapes end in convinctions. Most of the attention around this figure has focused on how it demonstartes the difficulty for the rape victim of seeing the court process through to succesfull prosecution. What has not even been considered in the discussion has been the potential factor that such a low number of succesful prosecutions could be becauce a significant number of allegations of rape are spurious and thus are dropped quickly upon investigation.

This is because the popular discourse around sex crime assumes guilt regardless of circumstance, facts or evidence. This is a very dangerous situation for society to be in.
