Guy Who Does Curls in the Squat Rack: Douchebag of the Month - May 2009

um actually, ass to grass squats> halway squats. i hope you just misconveyed what you were talking about.

tru dat. the bodybuilding idiots who came up with the whole “dont squat deep” 50 effin yrs ago have been proven wrong by modern exercise phys. squat deep, squat often

I hate the guys who work out in Polo shirts. It just screams utter doucheness

ass to grass squats> halway squats

No, it was conveyed just how I wanted it to be. And, It not a matter of body building what so ever. It’s a matter of technique, science, and some common sense. Modern technique (not body building technique) calls for the Femur to be Parallel with the ground. The muscles you are targeting are not the ones working when you bend goes so far. It put’s tremendous stress on the joint, it’s simple commonly known concept of diminishing returns. Just trying to help instead of being a jerk off it would be more productive to actually look into such an idea. I’d say it’s time to upgrade your wisdom there partner.

P.S. This is the general squat technique taught at collegiate football combines and camps. Some preach going no lower then a 90 degree angle. But, hey go ahead and use your old techniques and ruin your joints or better yet blow one of them bad boys right out.

Here’s a thought: Do both. ATG and powerlifting legal.

To the guy saying ATG squats cause your knee to blowup: How come every Olympic lifter on earth isn’t in crutches right now? They all squat to ATG to catch cleans and snatches in comp, and most of their squat training is very much ATG.

When you squat ATG, bar placement and recruitment of hips alter compared to a low bar powerlifting legal squat. Learn how to effectively use both, and stop having lifting topics on this board.

Oh, and the “butt-to-bench” squat guy. If you can’t put your ass to the floor then reduce the weight. No one is impressed.

This is a legitimate move. I was taught to do this as a way to practice my squat technique.

im debating whether to get into this but really, whats the point? the info is out there about deep squats, and so is the evidence (and none of it points to blown knees from deep squatting, funnily enough) and im about to miss a movie on tv. go and get some links to relevant studies that actually support halfway squatting (apart from people learning or who lack the flexibility and shouldnt be doing squats anyway) and we can talk. deep squats are not the be all end all of squats, sure, but they arent dangerous unless performed improperly (like everything else really). as a side note, this is what i do for a living, and so i do tend to do a little bit of research on it as well.

I hope it wasn’t actually a bench, but a box, as a bench is way too high to hit parallel unless you’re like 6’10

I’ve got a shirt I wear to the gym. It always gets smiles from guys who understand the rules of the gym. Here’s the front and back:

oh well. we can argue technique all day. I was taught ass too grass when I was young and when I started going to lifting camps (Penn St. Ohio St. Pitt. and some others around the Buffalo area) my technique was altered. I figured programs like that with proven success have to be doing something right. No big deal to me def didn’t mean for this sort of thing to turn into a debate lol at that.

UberAugie, the only sad thing about that shirt is that it’s a powerrack rather than a squat rack.

Spoken like someone who’s never actually participated in them.

That was absolutely brilliant! Did you at least put the creampuff in his place?

On that thought, why not also bitch about the scrawny, flabby student/pikey (don’t you know, they’re the same fucking thing!) assholes who wear backwards baseball caps and football shirts, only ever come to the gym in groups of 4, usually follow a big guy around like his little cock-sucking, sycophantic, pseudo-validating posse, hog one machine or have to use ALL the benches, hardly do anything at all except pose in front of the mirror at non-existent biceps, and talk like retards for an hour or so, never even breaking a fucking sweat.

How about I just bitch about everyone that is weaker than me? That’ll be a great way to alienate everyone.

Don’t post this stuff, seriously. Gym bitch topics always end up with everyone hating everyone.

There is still a reason why these topics pop up. Been to a college gym recently? lol. Aside from curls in squat/power racks, lots of different ignorances going on there. Everyone maxing out every singe time, every lift being forced reps. Unless they are on steroids I don’t see these kids lifting for very long, or being any stronger. Lets wait 10 years and see where everyone is.

Only seems fair to point out the “other” kind of douchebag. He’s the musclebound asshole who monopolizes the machines in the circuit area doing multiple sets of “insert any excercise here”. He is closely related to douchebag “A” but not ballsy enough to offend the mighty, so he monopolizes machines reserved for the weak and usually (but not always) female. It’s every man for himself it seems.
And if you hate planet fitness (whoever you are) please stay the fuck out. I find it amusing how a guy can post how he and his DB buddy are guilty of the inconsiderate behavior in the original post but seem to think it’s OK because it’s Planet Fitness.
Fat asses like me (yes I admit it) are struggling to get in shape and as we toil along in shameful anonymity, we don’t need to be pushed around (or out) by rude douchebags. Cheerio!

If you’re visibly out of shape and at the gym busting your ass, you get a free pass on anyone thinking ill of you; at least you’re there.

But Planet Fitness is a symptom of everything that’s wrong with our culture today.

I always hear about this, and have never experienced or prepetuated it. When exactly was the last time that someone bigger and stronger than you at the gym forced you out or was needlessly rude to you?

I honestly think this is just people’s insecurity playing against them.
