How does an 11-year-old Austin, Minnesota martial arts student get the opportunity to be invited to China to study with the great masters?
The answer is through practice, practice, practice.
Joshua Blum, a fifth grader at Lyle has taken this to heart. He was handpicked last summer at a martial arts camp by Master Wu Ben who has also been an instructor for Jackie Chan and Jett Lee to come to China to study this ancient art form.
“We learn different self defense forms at the camp,” he said.

The fact that the kid is going to be learning Olympics (??Wushu??) routines means he’ll be learning something like Olympics TKD. But meeting the Head of the government sanctioned Chinese martial arts association who trained with Jackie Chan seems pretty nice.
