Ghost's Tuesday Night (Kyokushin) Smackdown
Sounds familiar to anyone. Forget his age or what he should know.

Many of your future opponents will be frustrated spazzes, if you have any real ones at all.
And they will either be within one weight class of me, or I will being paid to fight them and likely be at minimum batoning the shit out of them with an ASP. The problem here is the “experience” + massive size disparity. There’s a difference between training alive, and training like a retarded meathead that only wears Affliction clothing. Every leg kick he throws that you see any real reaction from had more force behind it than I can physically generate. The last one that got a real reaction out of me was straight up one of the hardest shots I’ve ever taken.
The problem is that he’s basically spazzing out when he get’s frustrated, and physics are overwhelmingly stacked in his favor. And he’s also twice my age and should know better at this point.
If you are truly concerned I would shop around for a new gym (much easier said than done, I know). I would try to scrub the “he should know better” stuff out of your mind unless you are in a position of authority. Insecure people can sniff out that attitude and it will never work out that the people who should know better will suddenly begin to act: their age, respectfully, with dignity, control or whatever they seem to be lacking.

Sounds like a blast to me. Lucky.

It’s a real fucking concern. At this point I think I’m probably just going to go ultra light contact when sparring with him if I have to. If I’m going 5% and he does something like this again, it’s not going to go over well. For what it’s worth, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever bitched about someone hitting me too hard. I love competing, and my reaction to people dropping me in the past with body shots has generally been “fuck yeah, nice one!” I’ve eaten a handful of headshots that had me shaking out the cobbwebs, and I’ve picked up two concussions (one from jits and another a week later from a bar fight). At no point during any of that in the heat of the moment did I have the same “oh fuck a little more and I could end up in the ER” feeling that I got when that last leg kick landed.

Who knows?

His penis might be tiny, he could have been having a REAL bad week, His wife may be fucking someone who looks like you, You might have tagged a totes sensitive spot and made him want to cry. Give it a couple encounters and make your final judgement then. Don’t be like “it is him or me” to Sensei, but instead inform Sensei you have thought about it for a few weeks and given it a few more chances but the contact level and attitude from Homeslice doesn’t make you feel safe so you are going to pursue your training elsewhere.

edit
The lighter contact is a brilliant idea while you slyly attempt to figure out if he can be trusted with your safety or if he is just a petty little bitch.

Definitely. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time he’s spazzed out in reaction to being hit, it’s just the first time he did it hard enough for me to think “oh fuck he could break my hip with that if he really tried.” Also I really don’t want to train somewhere else. This is the only kyokushin in the entire state, and I fucking love kyokushin.

Well … if it is literally KK or personal safety I would pick personal safety everytime… mainly so I could do what I loved (KK’ish stuff and rulesets) more in the future.

This post is so funny I cant breathe.

There’s no kyokushin without broken bones.
There’s no kyokushin without broken bones.
Yeah. In competition maybe. Not in training.

Lol i would love to spar with him…

You need more sparring experience i think… he won’t be the last guy to do this to you.
Yeah. In competition maybe. Not in training.
My most serious injuries have been during training.
Lol i would love to spar with him…

I’m more bothered by the instructor’s reaction to it than him doing it if that makes any sense.

Maybe the instructor has seen the sparing and believes the contact is reasonable.
Maybe the instructor has seen the sparing and believes the contact is reasonable.
That’s definitely a possible take. I’ve just take a lot of real beatings over the course of my life, and I can’t remember a single strike that had me that concerned. It wasn’t the pain, it was the force if that makes any sense.
Hi Ghost!
I think you just got a little nervous when the bigger guy decided to turn it up as soon as he got touched.
i think there is something to what Tram is saying here.
i think there is something to what Tram is saying here.
He’s not wrong. The issue for me is that I was at most going 30%, and those leg kicks exceeded my 100%.
He’s not wrong. The issue for me is that I was at most going 30%, and those leg kicks exceeded my 100%.
I know but i feel like from watching, you might be more worried about the pain then checking them properly… I guarantee a properly checked leg kick will make him reconsider the decisions he’s making.

It’s been said many times here that sparring shouldn’t been taken as a competition; it’s about self improvement. If he is putting you in an uncomfortable position you should be thinking about what you can do in the situation for your own benefit. When i face overly aggressive people i think of it as a perfect opportunity to work on my defense, they a perfect partners for this.

I think ghost is well justified in his concern. There’s upping the tempo and contact with an individual of similar size and experience with the intention of competing and there’s getting into a tit-for-tat striking exchange with someone who’s a great deal stronger.

It’s a fool’s errand. You’ll just get smashed with no real training benefit, Kk rules are practically a pain game and trying that with such a disadvantage will put you in hospital for no good reason.

I know everyone likes to get their digital cock’s out in the internet but there’s a time to get smashed and in training it with a giant baby isn’t one of them.
He’s not wrong. The issue for me is that I was at most going 30%, and those leg kicks exceeded my 100%.
You are still alive so no, these kicks didn’t exceedded your 100%. That doesn’t mean that guy is not a cunt. You should be cautious when training with him.
