This reminds me of a story posted on here a few months ago about a young TKD guy who died from being kicked in the neck. Tragic and unlucky, as is this story.
I break out in a cold sweat when I read the Mail comments, I try not to but some times it has to be done and they’ll probably digress fast considering it’s MA related.
Still, seriously unlucky for the guy that died, I wonder if any other details will be released.

First fight: Fireman Daniel Edmonds with girlfriend Michelle Noble
A young fireman died from a single blow to his head after competing in his first ever kick-boxing match, it emerged today.
Daniel Edmonds, 26, was taking part in his first full-contact match in a tournament at a nightclub when he was seriously injured.
He sustained a serious head injury and was rushed to hospital but died two days later with his family at his bedside.
The firefighter’s organs have been donated, helping save the lives of seven people and improving the health of another three.
His family described him as a ‘simply amazing person’. In a statement, they said: 'There wasn’t a single selfish bone in Dan’s body.
'He spent his whole life helping other people and is still doing so now. Dan had registered to be an all-organ donor, and he has been able to donate seven life-saving organs and three life-changing organs.
‘This is so typical of Dan and we take great comfort knowing that lives have been saved as a result of his kindness and selflessness, even in death… We love everything about Dan, and miss him so much. He meant everything to us.’

Chief Fire Officer of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Roy Wilsher said he had been set for a ‘promising career’ and that his colleagues are devastated.
‘The Fire Service is like an extended family and we have all lost a member of that family. For all of us the loss is huge and we are all grieving,’ he said.
‘Daniel was well liked by everyone who knew him and it is so tragic that his life has been cut short in this way.’
Mr Edmonds, from Abbotts Langley, Hertfordshire, was fighting in the Puma Gym Kickboxing Championships at the Lava and Ignite nightclub in Hemel Hempstead on Sunday when he was injured.
He was taken to Watford General Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London but died on Tuesday.
He’s a local lad to me. What a tragedy.
Poor guy. Sounds like an awesome man.
At least he died of a result of something he loved. We all gotta go sometime, so it might as well be a result of something you love.
I wonder exactly what the injury was…
It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, as long as you survive.
Wow…I am guessing it was a kick rather than a punch. Talk about shitty luck…Firefighters have always been at the top of my list as far as respect goes. I feel bad for his family…
RIP
This was sobering…
Striking combat sports have a small random chance of making you drop dead. If not a head injury commotio cordis. I think that grappling is safer.
You’re probably right about that, but I think I remember someone dying while doing Judo.
I imagine this risk of serious spinal injury is greater in grappling though.
Wow, sobering.
I got kicked by a European San-Da vice champ in the neck once. He was going easy but he had very good technique from his background in kung fu. It hurt me a lot. Oh, and he is 95kg and I was like 75kg at the time. I wonder, what if he had been going a bit harder? If he didn’t pull back?
