This is one of my fun drinks.

The best I’ve ever had was when one of suite mates in university, Ivan concocted it. He actually was an exchange student from Spain so he sure had some experience and enthusiasm. I think he used cheap red wine, vodka, cranberry juice?, cantaloupes, grapes, lemons and maybe Sprite?

I haven’t really had anything close to being as good as when he made it, though most of the time when you order they make it there on the spot and don’t allow the fruit the time to ferment.

Anyone else like this?

Every country and region makes it differently. In college, an Argentinian friend of mine insisted we use apples although I haven’t seen that again. I haven’t had the vodka either, I’m thinking vodka and cranberry juice is a pretty recent addition to the recipe. Grapes, oranges and lemons the last time I had it. I’ve heard they make it at the table in some places but that seems to defeat the purpose.
