Does anyone respect Wing Chun?

Hi,
Wing Chun looks cool, and Bruce Lee started with it. Also… what a great respect for and dedication to blocking! But everyone keeps making fun of it. Not only that, i’ve seen alot of ring fights where Wing Chun guys got their asses kicked to the extreme. And i’ve never seen them punch effectively in the ring.

The Demos and light sparring i’ve seen look so effective and difficult to penetrate. Am i missing out on some killer Wing Chun ring fights or is this style all looks and myth?

What do you think?

You answered your own question.

Everyone here likes to bag on WC. I don’t think it’s completely useless, however if you are going to train in a primarily striking art there are others (Kyokushin, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, boxing) that turn out demonstrably better fighters it just doesn’t seem to make sense to train in them. If you are curious and somewhat enamoroed of the whole Bruce Lee/Wing Chun thing I would suggest hunting down a serious JKD school that trains live. But if Bruce was around today I’m pretty sure he’d be grooving on MT.

LOL!

Actually as a chunner (noob),I respect it and still like training in WT. Shit,You can train 25 years in a mountain temple eating berries & fucking chipmunks then get your ass kicked by Biker Bob at the Quickie Mart. Even as a noob in WT,I’m not falling for the “WT is too deadly for the ring\octagon\street.” I’m not buying that from ANY style\method\system. Learn & adapt. Adapt & learn. That’s why I want to go to one of the local Throwdown meets.

/non-typical chunner response.

Aren’t you that “yougotitwrong” douche?

Have you even noticed i’m discussing martial arts and asking legitimate questions?

yes and you’re still on my dick all the way from florida.

thanks for the input

Why doesn’t it make sense to train in those striking arts?

Thanks for the great info

Sorry, I meant “not to”.
