A grocery store employee who was shot in the upper arm during an attempted robbery late Tuesday night is expected to be in hospital for at least another week, says his boss. “He’s in a lot of pain. He has a big wound,” said Young Bae, a Korean immigrant who owns Charles Lucky Dollar Food Store in the North End. “(But) he’s very lucky.”
Two thugs – one armed with a shotgun, the other with a baseball bat – entered the store at 291 Selkirk Ave. about 11 p.m. Tuesday and demanded cash from the employee, who police at first erroneously identified as the owner.
The clerk, a 40-something military veteran who has martial arts training according to Bae, armed himself with a bat and refused to give in to the robbers’ demands. “He tried to fight with them,” Bae added. “He’s very dedicated to the store.”
FLED WITHOUT CASH
During the ensuing struggle, the employee was shot in the area of his left triceps at close range. The bandits, who were wearing homemade red masks, fled without any cash. Police have yet to make any arrests. Anyone with information on Tuesday night’s robbery is asked to call police at 986-6222.
