Boulder Shaolin master was accused of sexual assault but pleaded to harassment

A longtime Boulder Shaolin Kung Fu instructor accused of sexually abusing students must continue with mandatory counseling, serve two years of probation and avoid contact with any of his victims, a judge ordered Friday. David Soard, 55, had been charged with sexual assault and attempted sexual contact against two of his female students.
Kupfner said practitioners of Shaolin enter into an intense relationship with their instructors and change nearly every aspect of their lives, from the friends they keep to the food they eat. When Soard made sexual advances on his students, they often were too shocked or upset to actively resist, he said.
Judge Maria Berkenkotter said she would accept the sentence of two years’ probation agreed to by both sides, but she expressed concern about Soard’s attitude.
“In all the victim impact statements that I read in relation to this case, one line really stands out: ‘Submission is not the same thing as consent,’” Berkenkotter said. “In speaking just now, he indicates he still believes these contacts were consensual, and he does not understand the power he holds.”
The bold plus bullshido and research made me quit instructing.
Even if that were true, it is still irrelevant to this thread. If you have evidence of wrongdoing, or potential ongoing harm that she might present, I’d encourage you to start a separate thread and post it; Instead of trying to distract from the case being discussed.
She is not accused of abusing her position of authority as an instructor.

That David Soard slept with multiple students, or had extra-marital affairs is not the issue here. That he abused both his position of authority and the trust his students placed in him is the issue. What he was accused of is the issue here, and attacking the people that called him on it and stood up to him is not appropriate.

It wasn’t about the sex, it was what she did to everyone around her. I found it ironic that she brought charges against Master David given her own behavior.

So, people that sleep around can’t be attacked and degraded? Yes, that is exactly how I read your post. If Cynthia is who I think, I know exactly what she did better than you. It has no bearing on what David Soard was convicted of in the first place.
Let’s take it a step further. Lets say she did what you implied and asked for what she alleged or lied. WTH is a married man running around with an alleged promiscuous woman? I mean if she tore up the school, like you allege, he should have known better. He is married.
If we are going to spout hearsay I can tell you stories of things I witnessed and conversation I had with people before you ever thought about Joining the CSC schools.

Two married people having affairs is not the same as one abusing power.

Since this is an article detailing his actions you are equating her sleeping around to sexual harassment.
