I am a Traditional Yang Style Student. I have studied other systems previous including Tiger, Wing Chun and Western Boxing. After studying Yang Style for 5 years I am entirely fascinated with the actual combat applications. The techniques I have learned to use in a combat situation, while taking time to master, are particularly devastating in use. It seems this site revolves around “proof”. I hope soon to be able to film such techniques to meet such an end. So bear with me.
At the Academy I learn at, we use these as the visual and mental stimulation for the student to achieve the correct technique and flow in form work. As a full contact fighter etc from way back I find it hard to discuss the actuall combat side of Tai Chi with anyone outseide my school. I Australia we are dominated by the “Beijing” competitions styles and as they are an amalgum of various forms of Tai Chi, suited to display, the applications are lost from one technique to the next…
Is there anyone here who is also interested in such things?
Yes I’ve recently started Tai Chi Wudang style. Because i’m now the only student at this particular class the teacher’s started teaching me some of the more practical/deadly applications of the form. Some real karate kid shizz.
Combat application of Tai Chi. Hmmm. OKay i’m interested but you better explain really good if you don’t have any video. My question is if you use Tai CHi in Combat does it still look like Tai Chi? Or does it more resemble kick boxing like most other styles trying to jump on the modern bandwagon?
