Well, since the STAFF are stooping to picking on noobs, and seem to have nothing of value to add, I’ll give an example of what an observation might look like, if Omega were to have one…
After 15 years of televised MMA, sucessful fighters use some combination of boxing, Thai boxing, wrestling, and BJJ. These are all combat sports, rather than martial arts. In fact, the clkoser something is to being a combat sport, the more likely it is that someone is using it sucessfully in MMA. Judo. San Shou. Kyokashinkai, while not an organized sport, is still a competition. The only combat sports I can think of that are useless in MMA are TKD and SUMO.
If you are a newbie and you want to know what to study, study something with a world champion and not a grandmaster.

Isn’t martial art vs combat sport an artificial distinction? Certainly boxing, judo, muay thai, wrestling, sambo, bjj and the like are considered combat sports by some, martial arts by others and considered both by still others. Sorry, if you want to make a point that studying a style with competition is superior to studying a style that relies on dead forms posting “combat sports > martials arts” is woefully deficient to the point of being innane.
