Bruce Lee. A real open minded Mix Martial Artist.

They were just mad, because making new threads about old topics is discouraged. It costs money to make new threads basically, and a thread dealing with something that’s already been posted means wasted money…understand now?

Have you seen the things Farley was able to do with his huge body?? The man had simply amazing ukemi. Not to mention how much drive he had to push that body to do 90% of that phyisical comedy. Never discount the fat man.

Well spoken, fatty.

Chris Farley was a beast.

did someone say that bruce lee was a role model?
in some respects maybe but people seem to forget that bruce lee cheated on his wife, was never there for his kids and took copius amount of drugs (although that was almost the norm amongst his circles at that time).

Somewhere some poor Bruce Lee Fanboys head just exploded. :new_blowi

I was convinced the drugs part was because he had a serious back problem, and had no idea of the cheating his wife.

Anyhow no one is perfect, when people talk about him beeing a role model its not to be exactly like him, but his training ethics, his search to be a better fighter and all that implies.

A man with Bruce’s sexual mojo is bound by universal law to share it with as many asian starlets as possible.

Nah, I’m not running crying anywhere. I’ve dealt with enough internet trolls on other message boards regarding other topics beyond martial arts to be scared off here. Though I do stand by the fact that I find it incredibly funny that no matter the topic you still have the same stereotyped posters.

As far as enlightement goes, I’m only here to offer my thoughts and gain enlightenment of my own. I’m considering finding a new school to train in, and I figure that after getting the opinions of those here who have been arguing and debating the science and theories behind martial arts I’ll be able to make a good choice. I’m torn between JKD/Krav Maga/and BJJ, though I’m leaning towards BJJ just because I have so little true groundwork knowledge.

He also raised the Asian American male sexual image…by marrying a white woman.

Bruce was the man. He inspired a whole generation of martial artists and would be martial artists (including many of today’s top BJJ players). He also inadvertently created JKD which while not the original MMA certainly had many valid concepts and has proven to be one of the more adaptive systems. We even have JKD guys doing well and winning many local BJJ competitions.

Sure, he took painkillers and had many Asian starlet friends but I don’t know if that is necessarily a badge of shame. There is no definitive proof that he cheated on his wife. Even if he did, he is only human.

Maybe I use the word top a bit too liberally here.

i thought bruce lee hurt his back while weight training? or is that just what they tell me? them drugs can do terrible terrible things… nevertheless, bruce lee was cool. whataaaa and all that

um, no.

if one wants to be a better fighter, one looks to fight the best. Bruce didn’t. he refused to even spar with guys like Norris and wallace.

There were many great fighters out there for Bruce to test himself against. Yet he didn’t.

You know why? Because he wasn’t a fighter. he was an actor. He was acting as an infant. (in his first role he played a little girl, take that nuthuggers)

If Bruce were to fight anyone worth notice, he would have lost, badly. He would have ruined his movie career. Period.

Bruce spent most of his time acting, trying to get acting roles, training so he could look like an action star, doing drugs, and writing books that say the same shit you’ll find in Judo manuals dating 50 years prior. (he also liked to rip off guys like sun tsu <sp?> and Musashi.

“Be like water my friend” Bruce lee?

Read “the water book” (one of musashi’s books of 5 rings)

Bruce lee annoys the shit out of me.

According to Gene Lebell he sparred with Bruce Lee. And isn’t Chuck Norris also an actor, not a fighter?

I’d say in no way is Bruce Lee the perfect fighter/role model. But there are things about him that we can’t simply scoff at. His physical build was rather impressive, even if it was more show that application.

I’ve heard he could max dumbell curl 120lb dumbells. Does anyone have accurate information on just HOW strong Bruce was and if this is bull or not?

no, Bruce never rolled with Gene, Gene showed Bruce some groundwork, but to actually spar judo gene? With no actual live grappling experience? naw. The only time Bruce “fought” Gene, lebell picked him up like a child and carried him around. Big difference.

and no, Norris is a fighter. He got movie roles because he was a great undefeated fighter, not because he could act (he can’t! Bruce was the one that got him started in Hollywood!)

Bruce was an actor first and foremost. He was born and raised to act. He has no fight record, he never fought anyone outside 4 hong kong (bad) boxing matches. he would have gotten killed in any golden gloves tournie in the states.

Yeah he looked hawt though.

EDIT: Bruce’s training logs are somewhere online, they give a lot of info about how much weight he put up. If I recall correctly he had excellent upperbody strength but very weak legs.

I’ve heard Rorion Gracie use the water analogy several times.

Don’t be a playa hater.

ok, but can I still hate the game? :dontknow:

PS: Rorion stinks too! (He seems to teach intentionally bad BJJ to his students, ever see that guard pass he pushes that begs for a triangle? I hate that kinda thing)

Heh you are cracking me up.

Yes, the pass where he puts his head between the legs?

Terrible.

Gene Lebell may not have rolled with Bruce, but in an interview he did say that he got hit by one of Bruce’s kicks and was shocked at the strength behind it. I’m not saying that Bruce is a great fighter, but this suggests his legs were probably strong as well.

I’m more curious about Chuck Norris. What did he compete in prior to his acting career? I’ve never heard about this for some reason.
