Favorite Quotes:

Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: If there’s magic in boxing is the magic of fighting battles beyond endurance, beyond cracked ribs, ruptured kidneys and detached retinas. It’s the magic of risking everything for a dream that nobody sees but you.

Maggie Fitzgerald: I saw your last fight Shawrelle. You spent so much face time on the canvas, it looked like you thought the canvas was a pair of titties.

Frankie Dunn: How many eyes do you need to finish this fight?
Maggie Fitzgerald: One’s enough.

Maggie Fitzgerald: She’s tough, I can’t go inside, I can’t get close enough to hit her.
Frankie Dunn: You know why that is?
Maggie Fitzgerald: Why?
Frankie Dunn: Cause she’s a better fighter than you are, that’s why. She’s younger, she’s stronger, and she’s more experienced. Now, what are you gonna do about it?
Maggie Fitzgerald: [Next round starts. Maggie knocks her out in few seconds]

‘Million Dollar’ Night at the Academy Awards
From left, Morgan Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Hilary Swank, and Jamie Foxx pose after winning Oscars at the 77th Academy Awards
Million Dollar Baby earned four Oscars, including one for best actress for Hilary Swank. She played a woman determined to become a boxing champion and played opposite Clint Eastwood, who starred in the film, as well as directing it.

Morgan Freeman earned an Oscar for his supporting role in the film. Backstage, he described what an Oscar means to him. “I think it’s total acceptance is the best way I can explain an Oscar because so many people vote for you when you get it that you know you’re part of a very small group of people,” he said. <<

It’s a strange film. I found it very moving. I may go ahead and write up a review…

Hillary Swank actually did well in playing a role in a martial arts film? Maybe it’s time for me to overlook the horrible legacy of The Next Karate Kid and actually see this film.

OMG… that’sthe girl from Next Karate Kid? I had no idea.

She looked better boxing than Will Smith did.

You bet your ass it is. The same girl with the incredibly shallow horse stance and nondescript roundhouses.

You mean. . . her karate wasn’t real? You’re breaking my heart, man. MDB must have had a better boxing adviser then KK4 had karate advisor.

I thought the boxing in the movie looked OK. It didn’t have that Rocky stuff in it where they take bizzare extremes of punishment.

Personally I have refrained from posting MA movie news.
Shrugs

You’re probably right… it’s just that this was female boxing with a super high profile. I’ll refrain in the future.

Feel free, just personally I don’t consider posting about how many awards ‘Hero’ won as MA news. Unless it is more significant than that, post on!

Well, it takes some time to be able to do a deep horsey stance and not have your legs quivering all over the place. In all probability she just had to do it shallow so as not to be quivering and spazzing out on camera.

You can do a non-competitve boxing punch “correctly” more quickly than you can spend a few minutes in a really deep horse stance, if you are starting from scratch.

Ironic that the extremes of punishment thing more resembles kungfu legends than anything, what with bizarre masochistic training regimens.

It would be hard to have worse boxing than Rocky, though, from a technical standpoint.
