Welcome aboard, now that there’s someone completely blind abouts I suppose I can stop making a fuss about myself er, that’s a smiley face.
I’m only legally blind. It’s no big deal for grappling- well, except for quick shooters-, but it does make striking a rather painful experience.
I remember once in my senior year, my wrestling coach decided to have me do my matches under blind rules (must always maintain at least hand to hand contact) and I faired much better. Still I felt kind of odd. I had a lot of friends in middle and high school who were completely blind- mobility classes, yay- and I sort of felt like a tool doing anything under blind rules when I knew my eyes were so much better off than theirs were; I suppose it didn’t occur to me to think how much worse off my eyes were compared to my opponents’.
Again, good to have you aboard, hope you enjoy the site.
to answer the first question. I foumd this site when i did a google search with my school’s name.
to answer the secon question. judo is a paralympic sport. we start kumi kata or with grips. if at any point we loose complete contact we are brought back to the center and started over. my friends and i have no problems playing by sited rules ether. we all know how to grip fight.
there should be vidio of my match at the colledge nationals. usa judo has it where you can pay to watch the finnals of the major tornaments for like 10 dollars a week. I can’t remember exactly how to get to that part of the sight but here is the main address usajudo.org
you can also find the rosters and most of the tornament results there. the cji resalts can be found at caljudoinc.com.
I’m legally blind and we all make a big stink about it- by “we” I mean “me”.
Achromatopsia. 20/200, bad depth perception, bad peripheral, extreme sensitivity to light (in broad daylight without sunglasses I can’t see my hands), complete color blindness.
I know people with vision worse than mine, but the kicker is there’s no way to correct my eyesight while most people I know with similair or even worse eye sight can have their vision corrected in some way. No lasik, no contacts, no glasses, no transplants, no cybernetics- maybe stem cells someday, but I’m kind of low on the list of priorities seeing as I can read without my fingers.
In middle school they taught me to use a cane, I still have it, but honestly I don’t really need it. Granted some things catch me by surprise- like signs and tree limbs-, but for the most part people don’t realize the extent of my problem untill they ask why I can’t drive or I’m wearing bright lime green shorts with a dark red t shirt… or some other combination of colors that offends their sight.
I ride a bike to and from work everyday and forgiving a few really close calls have only ever been hit by a car like three times; it’s amazing I’m not dead.
As I said, no biggy for grappling, but I do striking too, and for it I eat a lot of punches that I don’t see coming. I’m working on that.
yes thank you. ther are about 3000 people in the us last time i checked with my condission. it is called lebers congenital admeroses. honestly i got looky i only got the eye problems, it normally causes more brain problems.
and when you figure out how to stop eating punches pleas let me know.
and i know to many blind people who sit at home and eat bonbons. don’t you start. your not that far from me, and i would hate to reeduacte a normal blind person.
