BJJ meets KFC

No one is challenging you to a fight, genius. I don’t know about you, but the average bullshidoka doesn’t like jail. We’re asking you to step up and spar in a controlled environment. That way no one goes to jail, or hopefully, gets seriously hurt. And best of all, we learn from each other. Crazy, I know.

If you lived around Austin, I would invite you to spar and then offer to buy you a beer afterwards. Flaming aside, this is the ‘team spirit’ aspect of Bullshido. We get together and bang, then we go out and grab a bite and/or beer. Please read the throwdown stickies for further clarification.

We’re plainspoken and give each other shit, but the grownups realize that it’s mostly in good fun.

hmm… fair enough.

If I may put my “I start flame wars” personae aside for the moment, you cant seriously expect that I would want to spar with you people. You guys do straight line submissions with no striking. Hell, the first thing that whitebelts learn, the first thing through the door down here, is to attack the eyes. Straight line finger jab into the eyes. One of our guys does this in one of your tournaments you’re all gonna scream “FOUL”! well bullshit. Its just not the fuckin same. We dont roll around on the floor and go for submissions and tap outs. We train so that when the opponent goes down he will stay down and you’ll be free to deal with other attackers. And if the first attacker is the only attacker we train that when he goes down we put the shoes to him.

You just cant spar with this kind of ideaology in your head. You cant standing fist spar, you cant grapple spar, you cant do any of it. Randori is as far as I would be willing to go with anyone.

For instance, stomping to the head. Even on mats this is a devastating attack that can leave a person seriously injured. But this is entry level technique that all the green belts learn. How can we tell them that they are/were wrong for doing it to someone in a sparring situation?

just my $0.02

I’m the slowest typist EVER

Man I spent 30 minutes composing a detailed and civilized response and my kid deleted it in 3 seconds. Damn. I don’t have the time to do it again. Some of your issues mentioned in the post above are addressed in the groundfighting FAQ. It’s only a 17 page thread so try to wade through it if you have any spare time. Click on the link found here.

FYI, a few years back in a Pride or UFC fight, a TMA fighter intentionally eye-gouged his sportfighter opponent. Despite the fact that the sportfighter was and still is blind in one eye, he preceded to beat the eye-gouger to win the fight. Someone who knows of the actual fight help me out here.

Also I referenced the Gracie’s NHB matches in Brazil where, IIRC, eye-gouges were permitted along with many other ‘too deadly for the ring’ techniques. Despite this, the Gracies kicked major ass in general. I’m not trying to nutride by bringing this up. I’m offering you empirical evidence that some of your deadly techniques might not as high a percentage as you think.

Also, could you please explain what the difference between randori and sparring is in your opinion? I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that they were the same thing.

I mentioned in my deleted post that I was bringing up these points not to argue with you, but show you a different perspective on the ‘too deadly to spar’ argument.

Being civilized in Trollshido really takes it out of me.

I assume that the “TMA guy vs sportfighter” thing you’re talking about was Gerard Gordeau vs Yuki Nakai. From what I remember, Gordeau was doing his nasty-as-fuck style fighting, eyegouging and stomping Nakai in the face. Nakai kept his cool though, and leglocked Gordeau for the tapout. Nakai lost an eye, mainly due to the fact that he didn’t get it treated properly right after the fight. Will try to find footage online.

The story doesn’t really prove any TMA vs MMA point though. Gordeau is a thaiboxer and kyokushin guy, both sports, and Nakai is a judoka. (I think?)

Thank you. Any TMA vs. MMA point was unintentional and a badly drawn example on my part. I was trying to point out that the ‘too deadly’ techniques are neither the most reliable nor effective as many people believe. The point it proves is that eye-gouges are NOT ALWAYS the fight enders that some people believe them to be. There are fighters out there with enough pain tolerance to withstand those kind of injuries.

I’m not even addressing the issue of how hard it is to gouge the eye of a skilled opponent. Bob and weave anyone?

Why doesn’t this shit happen to me?

I wanna elbow somebody in the face! WaH!

Alot of people here train striking.

When you do randori do you poke each other’s eyes out?

Yes, if it means you’ll roll with one of us BJJ’ers.

It just occurred to me that we’re due for the summer rush of trolls with schools starting to let out.

Batten down the idiot hatches and break out the ammo folks.

Ugh.

Is this perhaps, the reason for the nasty lag this afternoon?

Naa, that was probably my webhost downloading Thai orangutan porn torrents on my bandwidth.

This thread was absolutely hilarious
