A more appropriate analogy for Dana’s treatment of Sherdog.
Dana : Banning Sherdog from attending the UFC :: Barack Obama : Kicking somebody out of the white house press corps because he didn’t like the articles they wrote
WTF is up with the sherdog bashing of late? What’s next… People who wear tap out suck month?
Think of How Bad ass It would have been if General Norman S. Jr. Had Called Osama a pussy and challenged him to a cage fight, I would so pay $100+ for that fight on payper view
As much as I like the crassness of Dana White, the policy he is defending is shiite. Its uneven and unfair. I’d rly hate to see NSAC or CSAC step in and make some rule about mandatory credentialing to even things out.
As much as I respect Dana for his love of the sport and what he’s done for it, I think sometimes he’s just an asshole. Calling people faggots and bitches and dropping the fucking f-bomb all the time seem like symptoms of some horrible insecurity that all his tight t-shirts and Ferraris and octagon-shaped watches can’t make go away.
Point/CounterPoint - That is all it is. Sherdog posted an article that had some pretty shitty/shady and ultimately unsubstantiated allegations concerning ZUFFA trying to pad the pockets of fighters back stage without telling the fighter’s management company.
Honestly, Dana is 100% correct in that what the hell does a fighter need his manager back stage for? To warm him up, to talk fight strategy, to grapple, to tape him up, to hold mits…no, no, no, no, and no. The manager handles the business side of the fight and the fighter and his/her trainers handle the fight side of the fight.
If the fighter wants his manager backstage than that is his decision. I don’t see any reason why a promotion should be “obligated” to comp credentials to a manager. If the manager is worried about his fighter pocketing monies behind the manager’s back, in violation of the management agreement, than this is something he should take up with his fighter and maybe do a better job of marketing the fighter so he doesn’t start to think the “grass is greener”.
White has a Steel Mill Blue Collar way of putting things, but, he is not a politician, he is not trying to win a popularity contest, he does not need to be nice or kiss babies…he’s running a business and he is rightfully PISSED that a Sherdog writer implied that his company is going behind a manager’s back to gain favor from fighters backstage; which, given that ZUFFA is the 10,000lb King Kong Gorrilla in the MMA playroom, I doubt they need to “seek favor” from any fighter.
The legal implications for such an allegation are severe and present a bit of exposure for ZUFFA. Even if the allegation is complete crap, ZUFFA likely had to spend some money on legal fees to analyze the issue for any potential exposure caused by Sherdog’s shitty reporting and unsubstantiated speculation.
From the reactions I was expecting more but I don’t think Dana was that bad. Yeah he was swearing but so what? If what he’s saying is true then she’s fucked up on a major scale and he’s right to be angry. WTF are her articles being published if she has no proof any way?
If the allegations are bullshit and they can prove it, they should take sherdog to court for posting false allegations and article and for whatever damages.
I like Dana for being honest in what he says, but thats how you deal with someone talking shit to you in a bar, you wouldnt hear business men in japan saying ‘soy-desene, your motheru arewa midgetu-fuckeru baga, you shouldu seppeku yourselfu, harigato gojaymus bow’
In the business world act like a business man, calm, professional and seek legal represcussions if someone spreads rumours about your company.
sorry Phrost, Dana White is a douche cheese burger.
Respect for him calling out the bad reporter like he did, people should use straight forward language more often. but for him its just because it helps him sale. He doesn’t stand for truth, just business.
Dana the Bill Oreilly of MMA
This video is like Oreilly bashing NBC. Big fucking deal they are both full of shit!
IMO
My view on Dana White is, he’s a man who is passionate about his company, he has defended the sport itself against many ignorant closedminded haters (remember his appearance on FOX NEWS?), he’s a smart businessman who knew how to attract an audience (he’s not perfect but when he gets it right, the job gets done right) and isn’t afraid of pissing people off and wouldn’t let anybody push him around.
However, he seems to have a bit of an ego problem, tends to run his mouth a little too far (more than Ali did back in the glory days of Boxing), can be a real dick, calls out other promotions (in his defense it was mostly in response to them and their fanbase verbal attacks on the UFC).
In the end, Dana White is a businessman and judging from how far the UFC has gotten, a damn good one at that.
