I actually don’t quite know what to make of this. Maybe my limited knowledge of kickboxing is getting in the way.

Work.
Some of the things I saw reminded me of pro wrestling, but still…I guess props to Ashida?
I agree that there is a defintie pro wrestling element here.
I actually saw this vid a week or so ago. SOme of the comments are disturbingly… amusing. I notice theyve deleted mine already.
Admittedly this is clutching at straws, but how do we KNOW that really is Ashida under that mask? Lets all assume that its not, otherwise our world view will be forever distorted…
Im not really doubting that its ashida, but i do doubt the legitamacy of this tounament he is fighting in, just because some of the things that happen are so outlandish.
Exactly - if you look the referee is the same as the one in the “Ninja Shot” video where good ol’ Ashida is doing some 'rasslin (the “Ghostbusters” outfit is a dead giveaway!)
The moves in this clip are to gross and exaggerated (there is a monkey flip at one point early on) and it looks like an exhibition bout
Not without skill, but far from being combat effective or any form of proof - where are the ninjer techniques for goodnes sake?
Ninjers and a guy in a spacesuit in the same ring… yep, im going with this being kinda staged…
Looks kinda pro-wrestling to me. There was even the dramatic saved by the bell moment!
I love the robotic RefTron 2000!
Somebody on AK’s board claimed that spaceman shit was a “refcam.” They seemed impressed by this video. I would be willing to bet it’s fake though.
Can anyone locate this Phil Temples guy?
And would it be possible to find out what he was the “Full contact champion” of?
There cant have been very many kickboxing type competitions out there in 1989 that allowed takedowns.
Edited to add: I have seen that this has been sent to Trollshido. Oh well.
Absolutely - Ashida hits a vertical suplex at the end of the video, which I believe requires a degree of cooperation to work well.
So yeah, odds-on it’s a work. What a shock.
Even if it is a work or exhibition, what rules are they using?
Why the hell was this Trollshidoed? An explanation from a mod would been kind of nice. Whatever.
Anyway, some parts did look staged. And if the space suit was a camera, maybe that video is out there somewhere.
I think this has already been posted on here. Trollshido’s a lot nicer these days anyway.
AHAHA! I love this new trollshido. Totally had me bamboozled!
well I commented. Will see how long that lasts.
Looks like a strange kickboxing/judo hybrid to me.
And on the subject of everyone’s favourite ninjer mentalist…a new interview with the great man has surfaced on Youtube.

Evidently we haven’t blossomed yet.
The guy in the “fight” is about 55-60 pounds heavier looking than AK. I mean the guys is short and anerexic. Unless he’s put on wieght I think it was another dude all together.
Yeah I just noticed this was posted a few days before I put this one up… d’oh!
It probably isn’t Ashida though. And I still wanna find the video that the spaceman took.
