Oh hey are you at UW? A friendly sparring meeting sounds great! I finally got into martial arts that actually train with resistance and am having lots of fun. I’ve got a pretty open schedule too. However, looking at how long this has been posted, perhaps you have already found a gym or joined either the UW judo or bjj club? Anyways just wanted to say I was interested.
Oh can I ask the kyokushin instructor a question? When you say people are expected to be training other than kumite class, do you just mean kyokushin or striking or can judo count? I do have a year of tippy tappy olympic taekwondo not that it means much at all. I was just a bit interested in experiencing what full contact striking is like.
No, I’m at Bellevue at the moment. I’m going to go check out SeaTown Sambo.
I’d be happy to meet up and roll every once in a while, though :qmickey:
I naturally prefer that people are training with my regular class. However, I do let people come spar with us. It is good for both them and us. I prefer that people are actively training somewhere, keep the meatheads to a minimum. I don’t have any requirements of where or what you are training, just like people training.
Striking experience is not a factor. Everybody’s level is different and we all started from zero at one time. We are always working to improve our striking skills.
Typical class will go something like: combo drills (solo), partner drills with striking pads, then kumite. Our kumite rules are typical Kyokushin rules. We don’t usually go over 75% power. Precision on people, power on pads. Everybody fights everybody else. Safety is priority, bumps and bruises will happen. Feel free to come by anytime.
Hey, where are you located? I’d love to come by and spar from time to time.
We train at Seattle Univeristy. The university has changed its fee structures. Quarter membership is $65, they have montly, which is about $30 (depends on which month), and drop in fee of $7 ( I think). If you show up more than once in a blue moon, I ask that you pay the club fee of $10 which goes to equipment. We run on SU academic quarter schedule.
First visit they will usually let you come by without charge, just say you are to check on the karate class. The SU admittance policy is out of my controll.

The gym is on the corner of 14th and cherry. When you show up let me know you are from here. As my general rule for people just showing up is to watch first class. Since we eventually get to contact on each other, people need to see what they are getting into. Keeps ego and tempers under control. We are a fun loving bunch who like to punch and kick our fellow humans. Don’t forget to hydrate. :new_smile

Sure. I’m happy to be punched and kicked, and dish it back out. If you want me to sit out – it’s your house. :XXmonkey:
No you wouldn’t have to sit out. With you training and having some sense of dojo etiquette I think you will have no problem understanding the up and down flows of sparing. Sometimes you can go harder, and other times you need to lighten up. Sometime for yourself, other times for you opponent/partner. Rules and safety are always discussed before we start kumite.
Come by we are always there on Saturday except the last two weeks of December. We will be there on the 18th not the 25th or Jan 1st. Then back to normal, we will begin preparing for upcoming tournament at the being of year, class will be good hard and fun. As always.
