I don’t have time to edit this right now, but it really needs some.
“Often armed with a bo or tanto”.
First of all, I’m almost sure that’s not true. Never seen a school where weapons randori (of the “multiple uke with weapons attack one nage”) of any kind was a regular practice. Actually, I’ve NEVER seen that outside of demonstrations. And secondly, on a more minor note – what? A bo?
Yeah, that part is a little off. It definitely should be a Jo. But I know that Yoshinkan guys often do armed multiman randori. As a matter of fact, I believe one of their requirements for Shodan is to do a three man randori - one guy with a bokken, one with a tanto, and one unarmed.
That seems really weird. I’d like to hear their explanation for why that’s a useful testing scenario. In Yoshokai, we don’t even do multi-person randori…in fact, I’ve never even seen the head instructor do that.
The wikipedia version just got to featured article status, pinching some info from there or jsut using the refs may be worth it.
we have to be careful, we get penalized on google if our content is too much like another sites. That’s why our search index for .org is crap right now.
Wolf… Do you want me to edit that article ? I have 20 years in that discipline and I think you know I’m not some tree hugging hippy fag.
Yeah, we’re all quite aware of that. However…
One of the things that kill me about people describing aikido is that they describe it as if it’s a monolith. I’d love to see the same sort of delineation that we see with karate. TKD isn’t the same as Shotokan even though both might be advertised as karate. It’d be nice to see such awareness of differences between styles of aikido…it would be fitting…
I know we don’t want to just copy wiki but figured we need to do something to expand it if aikido to FA there (esp as MMA & BJJ are still B class…)
anyway got you taking about it!
Adam was all of your last post directed to me ?
BTW why did you change your name ?
Q1: Depends on if you’re the one writing it. If so, yes it was. If not, then no.
Q2: Go f’k yourself lowlife. I’m not your friend, so don’t get friendly.
I find your answer to a perfectly polite question rather rude, you could have simply told me to mind my own business, instead, you jump in both guns blazing without first contemplating the impression people might make of you and your comments.
In terms of my first question… Was your post directed at me?
I made that statement because you supposedly quoted me (whist editing the actual text) however, your retort made no reference (or sense) to my previous post which was directed too wolf specifically, so, either you were addressing me or you were not… Which is why I asked. A simple yes or no would have sufficed.
If you want to get pissy with me Adam go right ahead, I have little time for fuckwits or people who get uptight on a faceless media like an internet forum… What I will say however, given your retort I think you have something to hide. That’s your business but don’t get in my face because you’re uptight, defensive or otherwise pissy about someone asking why you changed your name legally.
Correct me if I’m wrong but you released the issue of your name change in to the public domain yourself… correct ?
So, wind your fucking neck in.
Wow, his attitude seems to have changed a bit in the last month.
Why the hostility?
I think FFF2 would be a great source of clarifying info about Aikido.
Is it because Adam is a tree huggin hippy fag?
Adam likes to cuddle, if I remember correctly, not hug.
Adam, this is a thread to discuss the .org entry on Aikido, not any of your grubby little secrets.
That may end up on another thread, though.
Your knee-jerk reaction to an innocuous offer from an established member to help edit the article using their 20 year experience in the art being discussed is a bit out of proportion, though.
I’m not sure who wants to read about aikido on here, but if there are any i would say FFF2 is a good resource.
btw Adam, your postcount and your location, didnt you used to have another username?
my only comment would be my same old hash… TRUE most schools of aikido are almost completely compliant and nonresistant, but not all… some brands do use PROGRESSIVE resistance, as well as ACTIVE resistance with attempts to escape/counter based upon the experience/level of the participants.
Adam Aikidoa, by nature, love everyone! You’re suposed to make friends from enemies, you’re unbalancing things!
I’ practised aikido about 5 years.
In my opinion aikido, as a style of martial art, is not as bad as many people think. It is just sad that nowadays those practising aikido are hippies and many of the instructors seem not to know very well what they are doing.
Beginnerst start to practise from holds, and thats understandable. When practising more the same techniques are done from strikes. The problem is that the attacks done far from a realistic manner and many aikidokas can’t even make a decent hit - it is no taught to them.
Many teachers don’t know the hard grappling or hard contact sparring that Ueshiba built Aikido on.
Thats the problem.
It’s like teaching Calculus to people who don’t know baisc arithmetic
