In my experience injuries are almost always the reason adults stop taking a martial art. Judo for adults at lower levels is the most injury prone martial art I’ve ever done.[/quote]
After Professor got that crash pad, take downs and throws got much more fun. I can only imagine what an hour on the normal mats is like. Especially if you’re big and get paired with bigger guys. Especially when learning a new throw. Especially when you accidentally land on your kidneys and floating ribs.
I dunno, I thought it was pertinent. If you’re losing paying customers to pain/injury, bringing in equipment to reduce pain/injury may help the club’s bottom line.
Which was the point I was trying to make, but didn’t really articulate. Invest in a couple of crash pads for the beginner class and you’ll probably retain students for longer. Older students (with stable careers and disposable income) might be less intimidated, especially if they’re just looking for a new hobby.
I wish I were still 18 and able to bounce off the floor and recuperate overnight. I’m not, and so are a lot potential customers. I need to be able to walk at work the next day. That’s why I quit playing rugby.
If you adjust your equipment to suit a wider age range, its easier to stay in the black.

This post would not have been moved.
Someone already mentioned how the duress of sparring in Judo leads to a high attrition rate. Your original post did not differ significantly from that point in my opinion. The post above does.
