Three people who tried to rob a 42-year-old man in Bradenton early this morning may wish they had chosen a different target.
Two men and a woman approached a man in the parking lot of Health Care America, 3600 Cortez Road W., just after midnight, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said. The woman pointed a handgun at him and demanded his jewelry.
The man, who is a tae kwon do expert, pushed the gun away and kicked the woman in the face before fleeing across a street to a Shell gas station to call 911, deputies said.
The trio got in a car and followed him, then fled east on Cortez Road. They have not been located.
The man was not injured, and the robbers did not get anything from him, deputies said.

That would have been a forearm block and maybe a #2 side kick, just my guess. I guess chivalry is truly dead when a woman can’t point a gun at a man and expect to receive his respect, rather than TWO black eyes. After seeing what a 4th degree black belt can accomplish, I’m surprised that she was able to function at all!

Well man, you are partially correct. I was surprised that TKD was effective in this situation. I believe that many of the other members here would also be surprised. This, in my opinion, has much to do with the training methods and focus.
Do I think TKD sucks? Depends on what you want it for. I’ve known a couple of people who swore up and down that they trained in a realistic manner and that it could still be effective on “teh str33t”. I’ve also met people who trained in it for tournaments/ sport and wouldn’t be able to fight their way out of a paper bag if their life depended on it.

Considering that the “Fastest KO” Tag on this site belongs to a MOD & Amateur MMA fighter who’s striking is TKD based, I think we can leave the “LOL TKD” stuff behind.
Well, Im not even going to speculate why he was out there at that time of night. Although I do wonder, it could be something completely innocent. Quite possibly, he was out taking a walk in the late evening.
The perps were probably parked in the lot they mention. Possibly, using the female as “bait” with the car hood up. When he sticks his head under the hood to check the engine, because lets face it, that’s a typical guy response even when we don’t know much about engines, she pulls the gun on him. Now the 2 males may have been hiding, or may have been in plain sight. Either way, if they were smart they would have used the car as a barrier to trap him while they mugged him.
Or, they didn’t use the car as a prop, they may have used a “wall” to block his forward progress, or may have used a triangle with her on point and them circling around behind him. We don’t know, there wasn’t a lot of detail in the article, as you mentioned.
What we do know is that she had the gun, he pushed it away, and then kicked her in the face. To me, it sounds like an outward type block followed by an inside creasant kick to the face. By following through with that kick, he could be turning to run away, which he did. It could also have been a front snap or perhaps a side kick. I’m leaning to the creasant though, just because they said that she was kicked in the “face” not “head”. That’s a really minor thing, but it’s just the way I read it.
Why does it seem like the women is the only one that gets injured in these three man robberies? I remember back in November a pregnant girl got stabbed by a retired marine when she, her boyfriend, and his best friend tried this.
