Good start … Mr. M, & Bullshido Staff, kindly think through a working “Things to be done list.” and let’s start to assign areas of responsibility. It needs to be as concrete as possible, e.g., help where ever needed isn’t good enough.
Atlanta needs to give us a reasonable “best estimate” of numbers they are showing up with and how they plan to arrive … date - time - place. Baltimore is a pain in the ass to get around in if you aren’t familiar with the City.
It looks like the “tale of the tape” thing has gone by the wayside in favor of randomly played personal entrance music. Your chosen entrance song plays … you step onto the mat. Perhaps this thing can be formally finalized or shitcanned … whatever.
There might be some direct challenges and there is no reason why these can’t go forward as well.
The other thing is that an “instructional” component has been suggested a few times. The “who-what-when & how” parts of this should be quickly identified and carved in stone.
Having an agenda in place isn’t worth shit if it’s not kept to.
The sooner we can put as many variables to bed the better. Shit happens and this event is no exception.
I formed two formal partnerships between the US Army, the FRG Army & the Belgium Army while stationed in the then FRG. We did an exchange of the functional equivalent of “Expert Infantry Certifications” … cross-training & cross-certifications. Nitnoid crap pops up regardless of how carefully and detailed things are pre-planned even under the most controlled of situations.
I’m just going to start thowing out ideas and considerations (ie. Brainstorming)
Out of towners are going to need lodging. Many people may like to bunk together, others will want private quarter, and others still may be willing to freeload off of a generous Maryland type who may offer. These arrangements may need to be made a month in advance or more depending on what goes on in Baltimore. An idea is to have one of your loquacious and savvy locals to go and try to get a discounted rate at a nice hotel for a block of rooms. (What I mean by “nice” is that it’s in a good location for the festivities we plan and it has a resturaunt and bar in it.) Reason for getting on this early is so that if there is a convention or some other big thing going on, we don’t want to be shut out of rooms. The hotel may also want to be prepaid, so we would need to get people to commit and send in funds.
Commitment, it’s a real bitch at Bullshido. People say yes they’ll do something, then back out at the last minute. We’re going to have to get people to put their money up in advance, so that if they bail, the rest of the group doesn’t suffer because of them. We are going to have to account for what this thing is going to cost, and get funds in advance. I think this approach will be more successful than waiting. Yes there may be people who decide to come and participate at the last minute, but they will be far fewer than those who drop out.
If we have a hotel with an airport shuttle, we can let them bring everyone to the hotel.
Transportation to the TD can be in cars or a van if we need it (probably not).
At the throwdown, since the press will be invited, we need to have EMTs or some such qualified medical personnel there. We need to know what the law in Baltimore, Maryland is on “prize fighting” in order to know if what we plan on doing requires a permit. Having media opens a can of worms that now require these things and others to be complied with to the letter. It needs to look professional. People need to be organized.
What about weapons? I think it would be awesome to work it in. But I’ll be honest, full contact free fighting with weapons is a bit intimadating to me. The likelyhood of serious injury kind of goes up at an exponential rate. I think some good staff and stick action could be had but we’d need mega gear. Knee and elbow pads, helmet, and chest protector should do. Wooden blades could work too.
Groundcontrolba has all ready worked out most of the above. He has a way cool Girlfriend and I personally heard her say they could put up somewhere around 6 peeps in their place.
He’s done the hotel thing as well and we’ve concluded that it’s best to keep our Guests close at hand. Baltimore doesn’t follow the typical City pattern … it’s pocketed. That means you can be looking at Grand Dame Estates on one block and be right in the middle of a dope shooting gallery on the next block. We want our Guests to have a good time and remain safe. Therefore, Groundcontrolba’s local hotel (Hotel 6 I think) is the best way to go.

Agreed.

I didn’t know that until you told me so earlier. Your solution below is key.
We’re going to have to get people to put their money up in advance, so that if they bail, the rest of the group doesn’t suffer because of them. We are going to have to account for what this thing is going to cost, and get funds in advance. I think this approach will be more successful than waiting. Okay, what mechanism(s) do we employ to secure, retain and account for funds submitted?
If we have a hotel with an airport shuttle, we can let them bring everyone to the hotel. Transportation to the TD can be in cars or a van if we need it (probably not).
Even if Atlanta showed up with 15 peeps or so we can easily handle the influx. I seriously doubt that many will be flying in. I suggest car pooling and/or looking into a Tour Bus service that would make the run & back for a reasonable rate.
At the throwdown, since the press will be invited, we need to have EMTs or some such qualified medical personnel there.
First Gremlin just popped up. MD TD Crew let’s pool our resources and see if we can come up with an EMT or two willing to donate a few hours of their time/services or charge us a modest fee for same.
We need to know what the law in Baltimore, Maryland is on “prize fighting” in order to know if what we plan on doing requires a permit.
Damn … really? How is this thing qualified as a “prize fight” anyway? If this is coming from the Missus the Attorney I’m not being argumentative … I need to know when I take this problem to my Attorney. Having answers ready cuts down my costs … at $250/hour it adds up quickly.
Having media opens a can of worms that now require these things and others to be complied with to the letter. It needs to look professional. People need to be organized.
Well, IMO, media coverage is essential. However, I think Phrost is the one to make this call as Bullshido is his alone. What’s the word Phrost? Media coverage and jump through hoops or bag the media coverage and run it less restricted?
What about weapons? I think it would be awesome to work it in. But I’ll be honest, full contact free fighting with weapons is a bit intimadating to me. The likelyhood of serious injury kind of goes up at an exponential rate. I think some good staff and stick action could be had but we’d need mega gear. Knee and elbow pads, helmet, and chest protector should do. Wooden blades could work too.
Good points. Let’s consider this thing carefully and I think John Rallo’s opinion on this thing decides the matter for us. He might not want any full contact weapon comps in his school. Groundcontrolba, would you kindly ask John what his decision is in this matter? No sense in our planning out something that is going to be nixed or cause us problems in the future.
I’m not sure full contact comp with weapons is all that good an idea to begin with. I have visions of someone getting splattered … lots of blood … and that being the lead story pic chosen by the Press. We might want to go to a semi-noncooperative demo model and bag the full contact weapons comp thing this time through.
Next time out of the box we will have established Press relationships and more say on how we are presented to the public by way of published articles. We’re at their mercy on this one and none of us know what unspoken agenda any member of the Press is coming in with.
Okay, more thoughts later.
Let’s resolve - solve what is currently on our plate. Brainstorming is great if resolutions are tied in … otherwise it gets far too big far too fast to be of practical value.
Damn … really? How is this thing qualified as a “prize fight” anyway? If this is coming from the Missus the Attorney I’m not being argumentative … I need to know when I take this problem to my Attorney. Having answers ready cuts down my costs … at $250/hour it adds up quickly.
I don’t know if anything we’ll be doing will qualify as a prize fight or not. I might be able to find the law on that, so let me look it up first before you pay an attorney to look it up for you.
Okay, what mechanism(s) do we employ to secure, retain and account for funds submitted?
Avoid avoid avoid any and all talk of phrasing this as prize fighting or even approaching the local commisions on this. Bmore is a boxing town, and we would have a shit ton of problems tangling with this talk.
We’re throwing a seminar. With lots of “live, resisting training”. Friendly sparring matches between buds.
Okay. We just need to know what “Prize fighting” is in Bmore, and stay away from it then. The legal definition of things is not always what you logically think it should be. So this is my concern in wanting to know what this is so we are not suprised by this.
My idea on lodging was to put them up at the Best Western in Canton. This is the link http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=21035 .It is very close to the location of the throwdown the likelihood of anyone getting shot is relatively low and the price is low like 109.00 per night. In addittion they will be close to Fells point and the Inner Harbor which are the big tourist places.
We can handle a few refugees at our place we have a guest room and an extra aero bed.In order to move forward from here I will need to know the number of people and the exact date.
The media thing IS a major issue. We need to, with our actions, draw a clear and distinct line between what we do and a fight club. Thats for the sake of reputation. Now, we also need to draw a clear and distinct line between what we do and what a sanctioning body does. Whether or not you’re on the right side of the law or not, we need to operate in a way that there can be NO confusion. If we fail, we’re gonna have the boxing commission up our ass and/or a media smear story on underground street fighting.
The media aspect won’t be too much of a problem. If Phrost or anyone else in Admin can get up here the Thursday before, I’m reasonably sure I can get us on the Ed Norris show. Norris is the former Police Commisioner of Bmore.
The one thing that is absolutely is necessary is that we come across as professionals. As you said, this is not a fight club. This is not a tournament. We have to be careful using words such as “sport” and “competition” in any interviews that may be given.
While Mr. Mantis is right, we do need to make sure we have all the legalese spelled out, I don’t see us having any major problems with the boxing commision. No admission will be charged of spectators. There will be no prizes. There will be no “matches”. We will be having an instructional portion.
I was reading the discussion on weaponry and what will and won’t break bones. Don’t they make padded weaponry for exactly that purpose? Instead of being retarded and using real, bare weaponry, why not require sparring or padded weaponry?
Yes, it would, but the you can still beat someone reasonably smoothly with a foam covered stick. I cant think of any pads that DONT change the game a bit, so its a reasonable sacrifice.
